That’s fine-since the landscape rendering is stunning and Pixar still knows how to push the right emotional buttons to initiate tears. But the feature is more heavily indebted to landmark works of Disney/Pixar’s past, including The Lion King, Finding Nemo, and The Jungle Book (plus a dash of Blue Sky Studios’ Ice Age) than any other film from the studio. It’s a satisfying story about a scared, young Apatosaurus who overcomes his fears with the help of his dog-like pet human, Spot. This weekend, The Good Dinosaur will hit theaters, which marks the first time Pixar has released two feature films in the same calendar year ( Inside Out set records for the studio this summer).
